Here is everything you need to know when using the Lindle & Collins Stainless Steel Pour Over Coffee Filter!
How to Brew 1 Cup of Coffee in Pour Over Style
Step 1. Measure two level tablespoons of ground coffee into the filter. The recommended coarseness for a steel mesh coffee filter is “medium”, or a coarseness resembling sea salt. (Note: Using a grind too fine could cause clogging and bring up the need for an unclogging procedure that is explained below.) Please adjust the amount of coffee you use to fit your preference.
Step 2. Slowly pour boiled water (recommended water temperature: 200℉±5°or 93℃±3°) starting from the rim and towards the center of the grounds. This procedure is called “blooming” since the grounds swell up releasing CO2, resembling a blooming flower. After all the grounds are saturated, stop pouring and let the coffee drip before moving on to the second pour.
Step 3. Slowly pour the water in circles starting from the center to the rim, and back to the center. Wait until the water drips and repeat Step 3 until your cup is full.
Step 4. Sit back. Relax. Enjoy.
How to clean
Throw away the grounds and wash the filter with normal dish soap and a soft sponge quickly after use. Wipe off the water and set it to dry.
Unclogging
If you feel the filter is clogged, soak the filter in a mixture of baking soda and warm water for 30 minutes, then wash thoroughly with water.
(Note: Since coffee is an acidic beverage, soaking the filter in a basic solution like baking soda will efficiently remove any stains or residue. Please try to keep the filter in a neutral environment in order to maximize the lifetime of the filter.)
